Investors are expected to think critically, defend their ideas, collaborate with sector teams and apply their knowledge to real market situations.
The committee is led by James E. Demmert*, Founder and Chief Investment Officer of a $3 billion investment advisory firm and nationally recognized Barron’s advisor, alongside Mario DiFiore, PhD, Dean and Professor of Finance at Fordham University. Together, they create a powerful combination of real-world investment management experience, academic expertise, and high-level economic research. *See Disclosures
Every investor is entrusted with a $1 million virtual portfolio using the industry's leading stock market simulation platform. Each investor assumes responsibility for an individual portfolio while contributing to a sector team, researching companies, evaluating economic developments, managing risk and defending investment decisions before the Committee.
Each week, accomplished professionals from some of the world's most respected financial institutions join the Academy to share their experiences, investment philosophies, and career journeys. Because each Committee is intentionally limited to 20 positions, investors have the opportunity to ask questions, engage in meaningful discussions, and build authentic professional relationships.
Investors are given rare access to some of the most iconic institutions in finance and experience firsthand the environments where markets move and decisions are made.
The Academy dress code is “Come to the Office.” Investors are expected to arrive as they would for a day at a leading financial institution: polished, prepared, and professional. Every investor receives The Academy of Finance® signature uniform and kit, including the Academy blazer and tie, notebook and pad, and The Journey to Wealth.
Investors complete The Investment Committee® with practical investment experience, professional preparation and a foundation designed to serve them through internships, early career opportunities and their own financial lives.
