The Academy of Finance® was honored to welcome Jay Woods, CMT, for a special guest lecture as part of the Summer 2026 Wall Street Master Class®.

Jay Woods serves as Chief Market Strategist at Freedom Capital Markets, NYSE Executive Floor Governor, Board Member of the CMT Association, and CNBC Contributor. With decades of experience on Wall Street, he provided students with a rare opportunity to learn directly from one of the industry’s most respected market professionals.

During the session, Jay shared his personal career journey, from his early years in the financial industry to his current leadership roles in market strategy and financial media. Students gained valuable insight into the realities of working on Wall Street, the importance of adaptability, and the habits that contribute to long-term success.

A major focus of the discussion was technical analysis, the study of market trends, price movements, and investor behavior. Jay introduced students to the fundamentals of chart analysis and explained how professional investors use technical indicators to better understand market sentiment and identify opportunities.

Beyond market analysis, students were particularly inspired by Jay’s advice on career development. When asked what advice he would give students entering the job market, his answer was simple but powerful:

*”Be patient. Always be learning. Find a mentor. Stay humble.”*

He also encouraged students to embrace emerging technologies and to learn as much as possible about artificial intelligence, emphasizing that today’s generation has a unique opportunity to participate in one of the most significant technological shifts in history.

Following his presentation, students conducted a live interview with Jay, asking questions about investing, mentorship, market psychology, and career growth. The conversation provided a unique behind-the-scenes perspective on Wall Street and allowed students to connect classroom concepts with real-world experience.
