The Academy of Finance® Students Go Inside the Federal Reserve Bank of New York

August 10, 2026

At The Academy of Finance®, we believe that some of the most important lessons in finance cannot be learned from a textbook alone.

This week, students from The Academy of Finance® had the exceptional opportunity to step inside the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, one of the most important institutions at the center of the global financial system.

Access to the New York Fed is highly limited. Its Museum & Learning Center currently welcomes school groups and student programs by reservation, and even for these groups, access to the legendary Gold Vault is not guaranteed.

Our students had the opportunity to go inside.

80 Feet Beneath Wall Street

Students descended 80 feet below street level and 50 feet below sea level to visit the New York Fed’s Gold Vault, built directly into the bedrock of Manhattan.

The vault is the world’s largest known depository of monetary gold. As of 2024, it held approximately 507,000 gold bars weighing more than 6,300 metric tons on behalf of governments, central banks, and official international organizations.

Standing inside a place of such significance gave students a perspective that no classroom presentation could replicate.

Beyond the Gold Vault, the visit offered students a deeper understanding of the Federal Reserve System, monetary policy, financial stability, and the role the New York Fed plays within the U.S. and global economy.

Learning Finance by Experiencing It

The visit reflects the educational philosophy at the heart of The Academy of Finance® and the Wall Street Master Class®.

Our students do not simply study financial markets. They experience the institutions, people, and environments that shape them.

From learning directly from accomplished investors and Wall Street professionals to stepping inside institutions rarely accessible to students, The Academy of Finance® creates an immersive path into the world of finance.

The Federal Reserve Bank of New York visit was more than a field trip. It was another opportunity for our students to see, firsthand, how the financial system they study operates in the real world.

This is what makes The Academy of Finance® different. Access becomes education. Experience becomes knowledge. And Wall Street becomes a classroom.
